It’s that time of year. We are all sneezing and rubbing our eyes. The pollen count is high and it’s almost unbearable. You may notice your dog rubbing his face, scratching his ears, licking his feet or belly. If your dog has mild allergy symptoms, you can support his body at home. Don’t wait though, ignoring allergy symptoms may land your dog at the vet with a secondary skin infection or severe ear infection. Below is an easy treat recipe that will take you 10 minutes. All you need is a DASH dog treat maker or a waffle iron.
Recipe
1/2 cup quick oats
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 large egg
1/2 banana
1 tbsp peanut butter
8 scoops Bark & Whiskers Seasonal Support
Mash all ingredients together in a large bowl until thoroughly mixed. You want the consistency to be thick, not too dry, and roll-able. Add a spoonful of water if the mixture is too dry.
DASH Treat Maker
If you are using a DASH dog treat maker, plug in your DASH to heat up. As the treat maker heats, start scooping out spoonfuls of the mixture and roll them into a 1 inch thick by 3 inch long cigar shape. It’s not an exact science, so don’t stress over it. Once your DASH is heated and the light turns off, brush a small amount of olive oil into each treat dish. Then start adding your cigar shaped rolls to the DASH and close the lid. Cook for 3-5 minutes. Your treats should be a light golden brown. Using tongs, turn the treats over and cook an additional 3 minutes. Using tongs remove the treats from the DASH and let cool. Using the DASH treat maker, you should have about 14 treats with this recipe.
Waffle Iron
If you are using a waffle iron, plug in your waffle iron to heat up. Once heated, brush the waffle iron with a small amount of olive oil. Then add your raw mixture to the center of the waffle iron and close the lid. Cook for 4-6 minutes. Your treat waffle should be light golden brown. Remove from the waffle iron and let cool. Then cut into bite sized treats.
Additional Instructions
Store treats in the refrigerator to make them last. If you have a pack of dogs, then make sure the treats are consumed within the week and there is no need to refrigerate. Each DASH treat should have a little more than 1/2 scoop of Bark & Whiskers Seasonal Support. Use the chart on the back of the bottle to determine your pets dosing by weight. If your dog needs 2 scoops per day, then give 1 treat daily and mix 1.5 scoops into his food daily.
Please note that many vitamins and minerals degrade with heating, so make sure you don’t burn or overcook the treats!
